Inject the included Speckled Chestnut liquid culture into the pre-sterilised grow bag through the self-healing injection port.

  • Incubate

Keep the inoculated bag somewhere clean and warm while the mycelium spreads through the grain and substrate.

  • Fruiting

Once colonised, start fruiting by cutting slits in the bag as directed, allow fresh air exchange and light misting until pins and mushrooms develop.

Get Multiple Harvests From One Block

After your first flush, rehydrate the block and place it back into fruiting conditions. With a little care, it can keep producing fresh Speckled Chestnut mushrooms, giving you more from every grow.

Typically 500–800g of fresh Speckled Chestnut mushrooms from one kit over multiple flushes, with up to 1kg+ possible in ideal conditions.

Why Grow Speckled Chestnut Mushrooms?

Speckled Chestnut mushrooms are a distinctive gourmet variety with chestnut-brown caps, natural speckling and a firm, satisfying texture.

They have a mild nutty flavour with a rich savoury finish, making them just as rewarding to cook as they are to grow.

Speckled Chestnuts produce rich brown caps with distinctive natural speckling, making every harvest look genuinely special.

  • Rich, Nutty Flavour

Speckled Chestnuts have a mild nutty flavour with savoury depth. They are delicious in pasta, risotto, ramen, soups, stir-fries and pan-fried mushroom dishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. The bag arrives pre-sterilised and ready to inoculate, so you do not need a pressure cooker, specialist equipment or previous mushroom-growing experience. Speckled Chestnuts are slightly slower than Pink Oysters, but the process is still straightforward when you follow the included steps.

What exactly is included?

Each kit includes a pre-sterilised all-in-one grow bag, a 10ml Speckled Chestnut liquid culture syringe, sterile needle, alcohol swab and clear step-by-step instructions.

Do I need any extra equipment?

You only need a clean area to inoculate the bag, a suitable place for colonisation and a spray bottle for the fruiting stage. Everything else is included.

How long until I can harvest Speckled Chestnut mushrooms?

Most growers can expect their first harvest in around 5–7 weeks from inoculation, depending on temperature and growing conditions.

What temperature does Speckled Chestnut need?

During colonisation, keep your bag somewhere clean and comfortably warm, ideally around 18–24°C.

Once fully colonised, move it to a cooler space for fruiting, ideally around 13–18°C. A cool utility room, porch, garage or spare room can work well.

Can I grow this in my kitchen, bedroom or flat?

Yes, provided you have somewhere suitable for the cooler fruiting stage. You do not need a garden, greenhouse or dedicated grow room.

What do I need to do after the bag arrives?

Keep the bag sealed until you are ready to inoculate. Wipe the injection port with the alcohol swab, inject the included liquid culture, then place the bag somewhere clean and suitable while the mycelium grows through the substrate.

How will I know when it is ready to fruit?

The bag is ready once the substrate has turned mostly white with healthy mycelium. At that point, follow the included instructions to cut the fruiting area, move it to cooler conditions and begin misting.

When should I harvest Speckled Chestnuts?

Harvest when the caps are still rounded or slightly cupped, before they flatten fully. This is when they are at their best for texture and flavour.

Can I get more than one harvest?

Yes. Your first flush is usually the largest, but the block can often produce additional smaller flushes. After harvesting, rehydrate the block and return it to fruiting conditions.

How much will I grow?

Yields vary depending on temperature, humidity, fresh air and care. Your first flush is usually the largest, with further smaller harvests possible from the same block.

What do Speckled Chestnut mushrooms taste like?

They have a mild nutty flavour with a rich savoury finish and firm, satisfying texture. They are especially good pan-fried, roasted or added to pasta, ramen, risotto and soups.

Why does this kit use a liquid culture syringe?

Liquid culture gives you a simple way to start growing without needing to prepare grain spawn yourself. The syringe injects directly through the bag’s self-healing injection port, helping keep the process clean and straightforward.
