How It Works
-
Inoculate
Inject the included Red Reishi liquid culture into the pre-sterilised grow bag through the self-healing injection port.
-
Incubate
Keep the inoculated bag somewhere clean and warm while the Red Reishi mycelium spreads through the grain and substrate.
-
Fruiting
Once colonised, start fruiting by cutting the bag as directed. Provide warm conditions, indirect light, regular misting and fresh air while the small pins develop into glossy red-brown Reishi brackets.
Get Multiple Harvests From One Block
After your first fruiting, rehydrate the block and return it to fruiting conditions. With a little care, it can continue producing additional Red Reishi fruit bodies.
Typically 500–800g of fresh Red Reishi mushrooms from one kit over multiple flushes, with up to 1kg+ possible in ideal conditions.
Why Grow Red Reishi Mushrooms?
Red Reishi is one of the most distinctive mushrooms you can grow at home. It develops rich red-brown fruiting bodies with a glossy lacquered surface, pale growing edges and unusual fan-shaped brackets.
Unlike soft gourmet mushrooms, Reishi becomes firm and woody as it matures. It is most often grown for its striking appearance, fascinating growth cycle and suitability for drying after harvest.
-
Glossy, Lacquered Brackets
Red Reishi develops deep red-brown caps with a polished appearance and lighter cream edges, creating a truly unusual home-grown display.
-
A Fascinating Slow Grow
From tiny white pins to mature lacquered brackets, Reishi changes dramatically during fruiting. It is a brilliant species for anyone who enjoys the process of growing as much as the harvest itself.
-
Ideal For Drying
Mature Reishi is firm and woody rather than soft and fleshy. It is commonly dried after harvest, making it a great project for mushroom enthusiasts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The bag arrives pre-sterilised and ready to inoculate, so you do not need a pressure cooker, specialist equipment or previous mushroom-growing experience.
Red Reishi is straightforward to start but needs more patience than fast-growing oyster mushroom varieties.
What exactly is included?
Each kit includes a pre-sterilised all-in-one grow bag, a 10ml Red Reishi liquid culture syringe, sterile needle, alcohol swab and clear step-by-step instructions.
Do I need any extra equipment?
You only need a clean area to inoculate the bag, a suitable place for colonisation and a spray bottle for the fruiting stage. Everything else is included.
How long until I can harvest Red Reishi mushrooms?
Red Reishi is a slower-growing species. Most growers can expect mature fruit bodies in around 8–12 weeks from inoculation, depending on temperature and growing conditions.
What temperature does Red Reishi need?
During colonisation, keep your bag somewhere clean and comfortably warm, ideally around 24–28°C.
Once fully colonised, Red Reishi fruits best in warm, humid conditions. Aim for around 22–28°C with indirect light, regular misting and fresh air.
Can I grow this in my kitchen, bedroom or flat?
Yes, provided you have somewhere suitable for fruiting. A bright room away from direct sunlight can work well, as long as you can maintain humidity with regular misting and provide fresh air.
What do I need to do after the bag arrives?
Keep the bag sealed until you are ready to inoculate. Wipe the injection port with the alcohol swab, inject the included liquid culture, then place the bag somewhere clean and suitable while the mycelium grows through the substrate.
How will I know when it is ready to fruit?
The bag is ready once the substrate has turned mostly white with healthy Red Reishi mycelium. At that point, follow the included instructions to cut the fruiting area, move it somewhere warm with indirect light and begin misting.
Why is my Reishi growing long antlers instead of broad brackets?
Reishi shape is strongly affected by airflow. Lower fresh-air levels can encourage antler-shaped growth, while more regular fresh-air exchange helps encourage broader bracket-style caps.
Can I get more than one harvest?
Yes. Your first flush is usually the largest, but the block can often produce additional smaller flushes. After harvesting, rehydrate the block and return it to fruiting conditions.
How much will I grow?
Yields vary depending on temperature, humidity, fresh air and care. Reishi fruit bodies are firm and lighter than large oyster mushroom clusters, so each grow can look quite different.
Can Red Reishi be cooked like oyster mushrooms?
Red Reishi becomes firm and woody as it matures, so it is not generally used as a fresh cooking mushroom. It is more commonly dried after harvest.
Why does this kit use a liquid culture syringe?
Liquid culture gives you a simple way to start growing without needing to prepare grain spawn yourself. The syringe injects directly through the bag’s self-healing injection port, helping keep the process clean and straightforward.
