Why Grow Phoenix Oyster Mushrooms?

Phoenix Oysters are a fast-growing gourmet mushroom that produces attractive pale cream to light tan clusters with tender stems and delicate gills.

They have a mild savoury flavour and soft, meaty texture that makes them perfect for everyday cooking.

  • Warm-Room Friendly

Phoenix Oysters prefer warmer fruiting conditions than Grey, Blue or King Oysters. They are a great choice when you have a bright room at normal household temperatures.

  • Brilliant For Cooking

Phoenix Oysters have a tender, meaty texture and mild savoury flavour. Tear them into clusters and pan-fry until golden, then add them to pasta, risotto, stir-fries, ramen, soups, tacos and rice dishes.

  • Beautiful Cream Clusters

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. The bag arrives pre-sterilised and ready to inoculate, so you do not need a pressure cooker, specialist equipment or previous mushroom-growing experience. Phoenix Oysters are a great choice for beginners because they enjoy warmer fruiting conditions than many other oyster varieties.

What exactly is included?

Each kit includes a pre-sterilised all-in-one grow bag, a 10ml Phoenix Oyster liquid culture syringe, sterile needle, alcohol swab and clear step-by-step instructions.

Do I need any extra equipment?

You only need a clean area to inoculate the bag, a suitable place for colonisation and a spray bottle for the fruiting stage. Everything else is included.

How long until I can harvest Phoenix Oyster mushrooms?

Most growers can expect their first harvest in around 4–6 weeks from inoculation, depending on temperature and growing conditions.

What temperature does Phoenix Oyster need?

During colonisation, keep your bag somewhere clean and comfortably warm, ideally around 20–26°C.

Once the bag is fully colonised, Phoenix Oysters fruit best in a warm room, ideally around 18–24°C. A bright kitchen, spare room or warm utility room can work well.

Can I grow this in my kitchen, bedroom or flat?

Yes. Phoenix Oysters are particularly well suited to indoor growing because they fruit in warmer conditions than Grey, Blue or King Oysters. Keep them out of direct sunlight and make sure they receive fresh air.

What do I need to do after the bag arrives?

Keep the bag sealed until you are ready to inoculate. Wipe the injection port with the alcohol swab, inject the included liquid culture, then place the bag somewhere clean and suitable while the mycelium grows through the substrate.

How will I know when it is ready to fruit?

The bag is ready once the substrate has turned mostly white with healthy Phoenix Oyster mycelium. At that point, follow the included instructions to create the fruiting area, place it somewhere warm with indirect light and begin misting.

Why are my mushrooms growing with long stems or small caps?

This usually means they need more fresh air. Phoenix Oysters need good airflow during fruiting to develop fuller caps and attractive clusters. Keep humidity high, but avoid leaving them in an enclosed or stale space.

Can I get more than one harvest?

Yes. Your first flush is usually the largest, but the block can often produce additional smaller flushes. After harvesting, rehydrate the block and return it to fruiting conditions.

How much will I grow?

Yields vary depending on temperature, humidity, fresh air and care. Your first flush is usually the largest, with further smaller harvests possible from the same block.

What do Phoenix Oyster mushrooms taste like?

Phoenix Oysters have a mild savoury flavour and tender, meaty texture. They are especially good pan-fried until golden, then served in pasta, risotto, ramen, stir-fries, soups or tacos.

Why does this kit use a liquid culture syringe?

Liquid culture gives you a simple way to start growing without needing to prepare grain spawn yourself. The syringe injects directly through the bag’s self-healing injection port, helping keep the process clean and straightforward.
