How It Works
-
Inoculate
Inject the included Golden Oyster liquid culture into the pre-sterilised grow bag through the self-healing injection port.
-
Incubate
Keep the inoculated bag somewhere clean, warm and out of direct sunlight while the mycelium spreads through the grain and substrate.
-
Fruiting
Once fully colonised, cut slits in the bag as directed, then provide indirect light, fresh air and light misting while your Golden Oyster mushrooms develop.
Get Multiple Harvests From One Block
After your first flush, rehydrate the block and place it back into fruiting conditions. With a little care, it can keep producing fresh Golden Oyster mushrooms, giving you more from every grow.
Typically 500–800g of fresh Golden Oyster Mushroom from one kit over multiple flushes, with up to 1kg+ possible in ideal conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The kit is designed for first-time growers. Your grow bag arrives pre-sterilised and ready to inoculate, so there is no pressure cooker, complicated setup or previous mushroom-growing experience needed.
How long does it take to grow Golden Oysters?
Most kits take around 4–6 weeks from inoculation to the first harvest. This includes allowing the grain and substrate to fully colonise before starting the fruiting stage.
What temperature should I keep my kit at?
During incubation, keep your bag somewhere clean and warm, ideally around 20–26°C. Once it is ready to fruit, Golden Oysters do well around 18–24°C, with steady warm conditions helping develop their strongest golden colour.
Can I get more than one harvest?
Yes. Your first flush is usually the largest, followed by one or more smaller flushes. With good conditions, you can often harvest Golden Oysters more than once from the same bag.
What’s included in the kit?
Your kit includes a pre-sterilised Golden Oyster grow bag, a 10ml Golden Oyster liquid culture syringe, a sterile needle, an alcohol swab and detailed instructions.
Where should I keep my grow bag?
Keep it in a clean spot away from direct sunlight. During incubation, a warm indoor room is ideal. Once ready to fruit, it needs indirect light, fresh air and light misting.
Can I grow this in a flat or kitchen?
Yes. You do not need a garden, greenhouse or dedicated growing room. A clean indoor space with suitable warmth during incubation is all you need.
How will I know when it is ready to fruit?
The bag is ready when the substrate has turned mostly white with healthy mycelium. At that point, follow the included instructions to cut the fruiting area and begin misting.
How often should I mist the bag?
Mist the fruiting area lightly once or twice a day, depending on how dry your room is. The aim is to keep the area humid without soaking the bag or allowing water to pool.
Why are my Golden Oysters pale rather than bright yellow?
Colour can vary with temperature, maturity and growing conditions. Keeping the fruiting area within the recommended temperature range and providing indirect light will help encourage stronger golden colour.
How much will I grow?
Yields vary depending on growing conditions and care. Your first flush is usually the biggest, followed by smaller harvests from the same block.
What do Golden Oysters taste like?
Golden Oysters have a mild, savoury flavour with a tender texture. They are especially good pan-fried until lightly crisp at the edges.
Can I eat the whole mushroom?
Yes. The caps and stems are edible. For the best texture, harvest the cluster when the caps are still slightly curled at the edges and cook them fresh.
What happens if I see mould or something unusual?
Healthy mycelium is usually white. If you notice strong green, black or orange mould, or an unpleasant smell, take a photo and contact us before opening or using the bag.
Is the liquid culture safe to use?
Yes. The liquid culture is supplied for use with the included grow bag. Keep the syringe sealed until you are ready to inoculate and follow the included sterile handling instructions.
