How It Works
-
Inoculate
Inject liquid culture into the sterilised grow bag.
-
Incubate
Store inoculated bag in a clean environment at room temperature. Allow full colonisation before next step.
-
Fruiting
Once colonised, start fruiting by cutting slits in the bag as directed, allow fresh air exchange and light misting until pins and mushrooms develop.
Get Multiple Harvests From One Block
After your first flush, rehydrate the block and place it back into fruiting conditions. With a little care, it can keep producing fresh Blue Oyster Mushroom, giving you more from every grow.
Typically 500–800g of fresh Blue Oyster Mushroom from one kit over multiple flushes, with up to 1kg+ possible in ideal conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The kit is designed for first-time growers. Your grow bag arrives pre-sterilised and ready to inoculate, so there is no pressure cooker, complicated setup or previous mushroom-growing experience needed.
What exactly is included?
Each kit includes a pre-sterilised all-in-one grow bag, a 10ml Blue Oyster liquid culture syringe, sterile needle, alcohol swab and step-by-step growing instructions.
Do I need any extra equipment?
You will only need a clean space to inoculate the bag, a warm place for colonisation and a spray bottle for the fruiting stage. Everything else is included.
How long does it take to grow Blue Oysters?
In the right conditions, you can harvest Blue Oyster mushrooms in as little as 4 weeks from inoculation. Growth time can vary depending on temperature, humidity and fresh air.
What temperature should I keep the bag at?
For colonisation, keep the bag somewhere clean and comfortably warm, ideally around 18–24°C.
Once the bag is fully colonised and ready to fruit, Blue Oysters generally prefer cooler conditions of around 14–20°C.
Do I need a garden, greenhouse or grow room?
No. Blue Oysters can be grown indoors in a clean kitchen, utility room, spare room or flat. During fruiting, they need indirect light, regular misting and fresh air.
What do I do when the kit arrives?
Keep the bag sealed until you are ready to start. Wipe the injection port with the included alcohol swab, inject the liquid culture and place the bag somewhere warm and clean while the mycelium colonises the substrate.
How will I know when it is ready to fruit?
The bag is ready when the substrate has turned mostly white with healthy mycelium. At that point, follow the included instructions to cut the fruiting area and begin misting.
How often should I mist the bag?
Mist the fruiting area lightly once or twice a day, depending on how dry your room is. The aim is to keep the area humid without soaking the bag or allowing water to pool.
Why are my mushrooms more grey than blue?
Blue Oyster colour can change depending on temperature and maturity. Cooler fruiting conditions often bring out more blue-grey colour, while the stems and gills naturally remain much paler or white.
Can I get more than one harvest?
Yes. Your first harvest is usually the largest, but the block can often produce one or more additional flushes. After harvesting, rehydrate the block as instructed and return it to fruiting conditions.
How much will I grow?
Yields vary depending on growing conditions and care. Your first flush is usually the biggest, followed by smaller harvests from the same block.
What do Blue Oyster mushrooms taste like?
Blue Oysters have a mild, savoury flavour with a tender, meaty texture. They are especially good pan-fried until golden, then added to stir-fries, pasta, tacos, soups or ramen.
Can I eat the whole mushroom?
Yes. The caps and stems are edible. For the best texture, harvest the cluster when the caps are still slightly curled at the edges and cook them fresh.
What happens if I see mould or something unusual?
Healthy Blue Oyster mycelium is usually white. If you notice strong green, black or orange mould, or an unpleasant smell, take a photo and contact us before opening or using the bag.
Is the liquid culture safe to use?
Yes. The liquid culture is supplied for use with the included grow bag. Keep the syringe sealed until you are ready to inoculate and follow the included sterile handling instructions.
